Bird's Nest Fern (Asplenium nidus)

The Bird's Nest Fern, scientifically known as Asplenium nidus, is a magnificent houseplant celebrated for its unique and striking appearance. Its name derives from the plant's distinctive nest-like rosette of broad, glossy fronds, giving it a remarkable tropical charm.

This plant ships in a 4 inch nursery pot and soil with lush foliage.

Note that plants pictured are representative of the size, fullness, health and maturity of the plant we will ship.

After unboxing, keep your new plant in bright indirect light for about a week to let it bounce back from the stresses of shipping. Check roots for rot, and water as needed.

Refrain from repotting for at least one month. While we inspect every plant for pest and health before shipping, its best practice to inspect and isolate your new plant for up to a month to limit pest spread. If your plant arrives with any issue, reach out to our team with pictures if possible!

Watering Needs: Maintaining the right moisture level is key for these ferns. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels slightly dry to the touch. Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot.

Soil Type: Plant your Bird's Nest Fern in a well-draining potting mix rich in organic matter. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and sphagnum moss works well to provide the right balance of moisture and aeration.

Temperature and Climate: This fern prefers a warm, humid environment and thrives at temperatures between 60-75°F (15-24°C). It's ideal for indoor settings but can also enhance covered outdoor spaces in mild climates.

Fertilization: Feed your Bird's Nest Fern with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilization during the dormant winter months.

Pruning and Maintenance: Bird's Nest Ferns typically require minimal pruning. Simply trim away any brown or yellowing fronds at the base to maintain a neat appearance.

Pests and Diseases: These ferns are generally resistant to pests. However, watch out for mealybugs and scale insects. Treat infestations with a mild soap solution or neem oil.

Landscape and Use: The Bird's Nest Fern's unique form and vibrant green foliage make it a captivating addition to your indoor garden. It's perfect for hanging baskets, decorative containers, or as a standalone focal point. It's lush fronds add a touch of the tropics to any space.
