After unboxing, keep your new plant in bright indirect light for about a week to let it bounce back from the stresses of shipping. Check roots for rot, and water as needed. Refrain from repotting for at least one month. While we inspect every plant for pest and health before shipping, its best practice to inspect and isolate your new plant for up to a month to limit pest spread. If your plant arrives with any issue, reach out to our team with pictures if possible!
Plant Shipping Disclaimer: Live plants have different sensitivity levels to shipping stress including but not limited to shipping route/facility weather or being boxed up without light or ventilation for days at a time. Yellowing/lose of leaves, root rot, wrinkling of stems, discoloration, and other signs of shipping stress can be expected to some degree. Minor damage as listed above sometimes cannot be mitigated even through the best of practices per each plants unique sensitivities. Minor and Expected stress on live plants shipped by Scorpio Gardens as listed above cannot be considered for refunds. To minimize stress on your plants in transit, consider adding “heated packaging” for packages traveling through regions experiencing 40 degrees or less and upgrading to Express 2nd Day Mail
Growth Pattern: The ZZ Plant features thick, upright stems adorned with dark green, waxy leaves. Its growth pattern is compact and upright, making it an excellent choice for small spaces or as a low-maintenance decorative piece.
Light Requirements: ZZ Plants thrive in low to bright indirect light. While they can tolerate low light conditions, they will grow more vigorously with moderate light levels. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
Watering Needs: One of the most appealing aspects of ZZ Plants is their ability to withstand periods of drought. Water your ZZ Plant sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's best to err on the side of underwatering.
Soil Type: Plant your ZZ Plant in a well-draining potting mix. A cactus or succulent mix works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
Temperature and Climate: ZZ Plants are adaptable to a range of indoor temperatures, ideally between 65-80°F (18-27°C). They are well-suited for typical indoor environments and can tolerate minor temperature fluctuations.
Fertilization: Feed your ZZ Plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring and summer). Fertilize sparingly, approximately every 2-3 months, during the rest of the year.
Pruning and Maintenance: Pruning needs for ZZ Plants are minimal. Trim away any yellow or damaged leaves at the base of the stem using clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears.
Pests and Diseases: ZZ Plants are generally resistant to pests and diseases. However, occasionally inspect your plant for common indoor pests like mealybugs or spider mites.
Toxicity: Keep in mind that ZZ Plants are toxic if ingested. Exercise caution and keep them out of reach of pets and children.
Additional Tips:
- ZZ Plants make excellent additions to minimalist or modern interior designs due to their sleek appearance.
- Repot your ZZ Plant every 2-3 years to refresh the soil and provide additional space for growth.
- If you prefer a bushier ZZ Plant, you can propagate it by division during repotting.
