Birkin Philodendron (Philodendron 'Birkin')

Philodendron 'Birkin' is a captivating houseplant cherished for its striking foliage. Its name pays homage to the famous fashion icon, and just like its namesake, this philodendron boasts elegance and style.

This plant ships in a 4 inch nursery pot and soil. Each pot may have 1-2 plants.

Note that plants pictured are representative of the size, fullness, health and maturity of the plant we will ship.

After unboxing, keep your new plant in bright indirect light for about a week to let it bounce back from the stresses of shipping. Check roots for rot, and water as needed.

Refrain from repotting for at least one month. While we inspect every plant for pest and health before shipping, its best practice to inspect and isolate your new plant for up to a month to limit pest spread. If your plant arrives with any issue, reach out to our team with pictures if possible!

Light Requirements: Birkin Philodendrons thrive in bright, indirect light, making them ideal for homes and offices. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight, which can scorch their leaves. Brighten up your space with the beauty of this variegated plant.

Watering Needs: Maintain moderate soil moisture, allowing the top inch of the potting mix to dry out between waterings. Water when the soil feels slightly dry to the touch. Adjust the frequency based on your home's humidity levels.

Soil Type: Plant your Birkin Philodendron in well-draining, aerated potting soil. A mix of standard potting mix and perlite works well to provide the right balance of moisture and drainage.

Temperature and Climate: This philodendron prefers indoor temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). It's well-suited for typical indoor environments and thrives in stable conditions.

Fertilization: Feed your Birkin Philodendron with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce fertilization in the winter months.

Pruning and Maintenance: Minimal pruning is required for Birkin Philodendrons. Trim any leggy or yellowing growth to maintain its compact shape.

Pests and Diseases: These philodendrons are relatively resistant to pests. However, keep an eye out for common houseplant pests like mealybugs or spider mites and take appropriate measures if an infestation occurs.

Landscape and Use: The Birkin Philodendron adds a touch of sophistication to any indoor space. Its glossy, variegated leaves with white pinstripes make it a stunning choice for tabletops, shelves, or as a decorative accent. It's an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts.

Additional Tips:

  • Rotate the plant occasionally to ensure even growth and prevent it from leaning toward the light source.
  • Keep your Birkin Philodendron away from drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

Toxicity: While Birkin Philodendrons are not considered highly toxic, it's best to keep them out of reach of pets and children. Ingestion may cause mild irritation.
