The Spleenwort Fern, part of the Asplenium genus, encompasses a diverse group of ferns known for their delicate and lacy fronds. These ferns have earned their place as popular ornamental plants due to their feathery foliage and adaptability to various growing conditions.

This plant ships in a 4 inch nursery pot with busy growth.

Note that plants pictured are representative of the size, fullness, health and maturity of the plant we will ship.

After unboxing, keep your new plant in bright indirect light for about a week to let it bounce back from the stresses of shipping. Check roots for rot, and water as needed. Refrain from repotting for at least one month. While we inspect every plant for pest and health before shipping, its best practice to inspect and isolate your new plant for up to a month to limit pest spread. If your plant arrives with any issue, reach out to our team with pictures if possible!

Plant Shipping Disclaimer: Live plants have different sensitivity levels to shipping stress including but not limited to shipping route/facility weather or being boxed up without light or ventilation for days at a time. To minimize stress on your plants in transit, consider adding “heated packaging” for packages traveling through regions experiencing 40 degrees or less and upgrading to Express 2nd Day Mail

Growth Pattern: Spleenwort Ferns typically exhibit a compact growth pattern, making them suitable for both indoor containers and outdoor garden beds. Their fronds are finely divided, creating an elegant, airy appearance.

Light Requirements: These ferns thrive in filtered or indirect light. While some varieties can tolerate lower light conditions, they often perform best in bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid exposing them to direct sun, which can scorch their delicate foliage.

Watering Needs: Maintain consistent soil moisture for Spleenwort Ferns. Water them when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry to the touch. It's essential to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged to prevent root rot.

Soil Type: Plant Spleenwort Ferns in a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture. A mix formulated for ferns or general-purpose potting soil enriched with organic matter is ideal.

Temperature and Climate: These ferns thrive in a range of temperatures, but they prefer conditions between 65-75°F (18-24°C). They can tolerate mild fluctuations in temperature, making them adaptable to various indoor environments.

Fertilization: Feed your Spleenwort Fern with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring through early autumn). Reduce or halt fertilization in the winter months when growth slows.

Pruning and Maintenance: Pruning requirements are minimal for Spleenwort Ferns. Remove any dead or yellowing fronds as needed to maintain their appearance. Regularly inspect for pests or diseases and address any issues promptly.

Pests and Diseases: Spleenwort Ferns are relatively pest-resistant. However, occasional pests like aphids or scale insects can appear. Inspect your ferns regularly and treat any infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.

Toxicity: Spleenwort Ferns are considered non-toxic to humans and pets, making them a safe choice for households with curious animals or children.
