After unboxing, keep your new plant in bright indirect light for about a week to let it bounce back from the stresses of shipping. Check roots for rot, and water as needed. Refrain from repotting for at least one month. While we inspect every plant for pest and health before shipping, its best practice to inspect and isolate your new plant for up to a month to limit pest spread. If your plant arrives with any issue, reach out to our team with pictures if possible!

Growth Pattern: Staghorn Ferns exhibit a fascinating growth pattern. They have two types of fronds: shield fronds and antler fronds. Shield fronds are flat, shield-shaped structures that anchor the plant to trees or other surfaces, while antler fronds extend outward in a graceful, branching manner, giving the fern its distinctive appearance.
Light Requirements: These ferns thrive in bright, indirect light. They can tolerate some dappled sunlight but should be shielded from direct sun exposure, which can scorch their fronds. Indoor specimens are best placed near a window with filtered sunlight.
Watering Needs: Maintain consistent moisture levels for your Staghorn Fern. Water it when the shield fronds start to feel dry to the touch. Watering frequency varies depending on environmental conditions, but it's essential to prevent the shield fronds from drying out completely.
Soil Type: Staghorn Ferns are epiphytic and do not require traditional soil. Instead, they grow on surfaces like trees, logs, or mounting boards. To mimic their natural habitat, you can mount them on a wooden board with a layer of sphagnum moss.
Temperature and Climate: These ferns thrive in a range of temperatures but prefer conditions between 60-80°F (15-27°C). They are adaptable and can withstand occasional temperature fluctuations.
Fertilization: Feed your Staghorn Fern with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer every 6-8 weeks during the growing season (spring through summer). Reduce or halt fertilization in the fall and winter when growth slows.
Pruning and Maintenance: Pruning is minimal for Staghorn Ferns. Trim any brown or dead fronds as needed to maintain their appearance. Regularly inspect for pests or diseases and address any issues promptly.
Pests and Diseases: Staghorn Ferns are relatively pest-resistant. However, they may occasionally attract pests like aphids or scale insects. Monitor your fern regularly and treat any infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Toxicity: Staghorn Ferns are non-toxic to humans and pets, making them a safe and captivating addition to your indoor or outdoor garden.
