How to Care for Your New Scorpio Gardens Plant
How to Care for Your New Scorpio Gardens Plant 🪴📦
Acclimating Freshly Delivered Plants Like a Pro 🌿
Welcome to the Scorpio Gardens plant fam! We’re so happy you’re here — and so is your new plant baby.
Shipping plants across cities and states is an adventure in itself, and while we pack with love and intention, your new plant has likely experienced changes in light, temperature, and humidity along the way.
Here’s everything you need to know to help your plant recover from shipping stress and thrive in its new home.
1. Unbox Your Plant ASAP & Handle with Care 📦
When your plant arrives:
-
Unpack your box right away.
-
Remove any packaging material — paper, moss, padding, plastic sleeves, rubber bands, etc.
-
Be gentle when removing packaging from delicate leaves or stems.
-
Check the soil and the plant’s condition.
Look for:
-
Loose soil → gently push it back into the pot.
-
Slight leaf damage, browning tips, or bent stems → all common from shipping and not a cause for concern.
-
Soil dryness or sogginess → this will tell you your next step.
2. Check Watering Needs Before Watering 💧
Every home and every box is different. Plants can arrive dry, damp, or somewhere in between.
How to Check:
-
Stick your finger 1-2 inches into the soil.
-
If dry → water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom.
-
If moist → wait a few days and check again before watering.
-
If soggy → leave it to dry out and place in a well-ventilated area.
Water Slowly & Evenly:
-
Use room-temperature water.
-
Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water.
-
Consider bottom watering for smaller plants.
3. Place in Bright, Indirect Light ☀️
Your plant has been in a dark box for a few days — it needs gentle light to readjust.
Ideal Spots:
-
Near an east or north-facing window.
-
A few feet back from a bright, sunny window.
-
Use sheer curtains to filter harsh sunlight.
Avoid:
-
Direct, hot afternoon sun (especially for tropicals).
-
Dark corners or windowsills with strong drafts.
4. Hold Off on Repotting for 3-4 Weeks 🪴
Repotting too soon is one of the biggest stressors for a new plant.
Why wait?
-
Your plant needs to focus on acclimating, not establishing new roots.
-
Repotting can shock an already stressed plant.
Exceptions to Repotting Early:
-
Signs of root rot (mushy, smelly roots).
-
Pest infestations in the soil.
-
Severely rootbound with roots circling tightly.
5. Inspect & Isolate from Other Plants 🕵️♀️
Keep your new plant separate from your other plants for 2-3 weeks.
Check for:
-
Pests like spider mites, mealybugs, aphids, or fungus gnats.
-
Mold or fungus on soil.
-
Unusual spotting or damage.
Isolation Tips:
-
Place on a separate shelf or room.
-
Monitor daily for changes.
-
Wipe leaves with a damp cloth or diluted neem oil if concerned.
6. Create a Gentle Acclimation Environment 🌿
Shipping stress looks like:
-
Droopy or limp leaves.
-
Yellowing or minor browning.
-
Slowed growth.
-
Wilting or leaf drop.
Here’s how to help:
-
Mist lightly (if tropical).
-
Use a humidity tray or group plants together for higher humidity.
-
Keep away from heating/cooling vents.
-
Rotate weekly for even light exposure.
-
Limit movement from place to place.
7. What to Avoid the First Month 🚫
-
No fertilizer → wait 4-6 weeks post-shipping.
-
No pruning (unless dead/damaged leaves).
-
No heavy cleaning or leaf shining sprays.
-
No direct sunlight.
-
No repotting (unless absolutely necessary).
8. Supplies That Help Recovery 🧰
Optional tools that support happy plants:
-
Humidity trays or pebble trays.
-
Clean spray bottle for misting.
-
Neem oil or insecticidal soap for preventative care.
-
Soft cloth for leaf cleaning.
-
Moisture meter if you're unsure about watering.
9. You'll Know Your Plant is Settling In When... 💚
-
New leaf growth starts to appear.
-
Leaves perk back up and look more vibrant.
-
Soil dries out at a normal pace.
-
The plant looks stable and rooted.
Final Reminder: Be Patient & Observe ✨
Every plant is different. Some bounce back in a few days. Others may take 2-4 weeks to fully adjust. Watch your plant closely, trust the process, and reach out if you need guidance.
